Good Morning Reader Lately I’ve been thinking about the myth of Sedna and how it relates to the work we do in my group coaching program In The Company of Women. Depending on the version you hear, Sedna was a young woman forced into a life that was never truly hers. She tried to escape. She believed she was being rescued. Instead, she was betrayed by the very people she trusted to carry her to safety. And in the middle of the ocean, clinging to the side of a boat, when her father -to save himself- chops her fingers off with an axe. From those severed pieces of herself, entire ecosystems were born. Seals, whales and the like. She sank to the bottom of the sea and grew a fish tail and became a commanding spirit of the ocean. It’s not exactly a cheerful story. But I think many women understand it instinctively. Not because we are all living dramatic mythologies in Arctic seas, but because many of us know what it feels like to shape ourselves around expectations that were never ours. To become agreeable. To stay too long. And then one day, to realize:
